Good 60s Summer Social/Fundraising/Good Economy/Bad Court (with two exceptions)/Social Media
It Was A Week...Felt Like TWO Of Them...
By Tom McMahan, Chair
First, our 60s Summer Social at Cloudland Canyon went off FANTASTICALLY! Thanks to everybody who came out, we had a great crowd, great food, great music, and got to talk to each other and meet some prospective candidates. Pictures below. As part of our drive to create a community of Democrats and like-minded people in Dade, we will be having regular informal meetings for coffee or lunch at local restaurants. Will provide more info as soon as our wonderful Events Committee works out the details!

With the Social out of the way, we’re kicking off our FUNDRAISER for the remainder of the election cycle. Read over this info sheet for more details. It has contact info on how to donate, pledge, or volunteer on there as well. The link to our ActBlue page is here. You can access it with the QR code below as well.
More good economic news this week…inflation continues a rapid decline. Below are two charts every Democrat needs to post and repost and repost every chance you get. #BidenomicsIsWorking

Not a lot to add to this week’s Supreme Court rulings. The last two days were nothing but bad (here, here, and here - all gifted articles from the Washington Post and New York Times). The Affirmative Action ruling, to me, was the worst of the lot, especially given how “legacies” are still so widely used. The same “ok for the rich/not the poor” mentality permeates the student loan ruling, which can be overcome by Congress and, partially, by the Department of Education (read more on that here.) The anti-gay ruling is limited (in theory) to only 1st Amendment creative thought expressions, so it should not go beyond that and into products and commodities. But what about other services? Are those “thought expressions” too? I don’t know if the Court realizes the Pandora’s Boxes they’ve opened with this.
Before that set of awful rulings, the Supreme Court previously upheld rulings striking down racially gerrymandered districts in Alabama and Louisiana, which will force those states (maybe others too, including Georgia) to redraw district maps before next year’s elections. These were still more big wins for voting rights and the legal teams headed by Marc Elias and others.
Are you following our social media platforms? Please do if you’re not. This is another way (besides the in-person social events) we can build community not only here in the county, but across the region and state.
