Early Voting Underway/Volunteers Getting Involved
A look at Questions, Numbers, and Upcoming Events
First, for Democratic Primary voters, please review my previous post about a problem with one of our ballot questions. Remember to vote for the “nuisance” ordinance question, not the duplicated question on the screen.
Second, we have TWO things coming up this Wednesday, both in Trenton at Guthrie’s. The first is our Volunteer Drive from 5:30 to 7 pm, the second our Regular Meeting from 7 pm to around 8 or 8:15 pm. Feel free to come for both or either! If you can’t make it in person on Wednesday night, but you absolutely want to volunteer for various things this upcoming campaign season, please email Rita Fanning (ritafanning@mindspring.com) or myself (dadedemocrat@gmail.com) so we can add you. But please come by if at all possible because we’d like to give you a token of our thanks and have you be first in line for possible paid canvassing work this campaign season (see Volunteer Drive link above).
Third, early voting results through Thursday (first four days).
Total voters (on all primary ballots cast or requested) - 380
Democratic primary voters - 34
Republican primary voters - 344 (see below for more detail)
Non-partisan primary voters - 2
Obviously lop-sided toward Republican because that’s where the contested local races are. You can help keep that from being more lopsided by VOTING EARLY in the Democratic primary if you haven’t already done so. In fact polls are open today, Saturday, 9 to 5. I would like to see us reach 300 voters or more this primary, but right now we are on a pace for somewhere in the 200s. So please vote in the Democratic Primary if you are so inclined and bring along a friend!
Now of course some Democrats are choosing to vote in the GOP primary for the local races. That’s understandable. How many “crossover” voters do we have, roughly?
It looks to be around 43 of the 344 Republican primary voters, 12.5% of the Republican primary voters, are actually Democratic voters. When you add that number back to the mix, we’ve had 77 Democratic voters come out to vote so far out of 380, or a bit over 20% of all ballots cast. That’s actually a pretty good number for Team D! It shows that Democrats are engaged and voting this year, and remember, our goal for the Presidential election in November is just to get our percentages up to around 18-19%, and this shows that is entirely possible!
Fourth, one more quick primary ballot item - remember to vote John Barrow, State Supreme Court! He’s pro-Roe and we need voices on our state’s highest court that support women’s right to choose! Again, bring a friend to vote for John! If they’re reluctant to vote in ANY party primary, remind them they can vote a NON-PARTISAN ballot and still vote for John. Judicial races show up on ALL the ballots, but they’re over with this election! There’s no November judicial races!
Fifth, a moment to brag - our Dade County Democratic Committee won a grant with Contest Every Race this year, and we’re participating in that group’s program to increase rural Democratic voters! We’re one of only a handful of Georgia county Committees to be accepted!
Winning the grant makes our Committee eligible to receive up to $2000 in additional funding if we are able to meet monthly goals! One of those goals is the Volunteer Drive, so again - help us reach more voters, and you’ll be putting our Committee in a better place financially so we can continue to grow in the future!
Finally, our upcoming Social/BBQ/Caucus/Fundraiser in late June at Cloudland Canyon! We’re working out details and we’ll keep you updated, but SAVE THAT DATE!
We now have yard signs for Joseph Leigh, Bart Bryant, Shawn Harris, and John Barrow. If anyone wants one for your yard, email at dadedemocrat@gmail.com
